Black Woman’s Symposium (BWS)

The Black Woman’s Symposium is Umoja’s Spring signature event. This symposium provides an open space to give UT students and the greater Austin community the opportunity to explore and examine social, political, and professional perspectives regarding women. The purpose of this symposium is to empower women to be ambitious about future success, and to cultivate personal growth for all participants. This year's theme is "The Renaissance Woman", and it aims to develop leadership skills that will groom attendees for their aspiring career while tackling some of the challenges that women may face along the way. Our goal is that this event will inspire communion among women and empower those to be courageous and confident when pursuing future careers.

Boys and Girls Club of East Austin

This event was a philanthropy event catered to the children of the East Austin Boys and Girls Club during their Power Hour, a hour dedicated for their homework. During this event, the women of Umoja, a non-Greek sisterhood organization at The University of Texas at Austin campus, assisted the students with their homework assignments and recreational activities.

Talents such as dancing, singing, and others are performed at this event. Identifying and understanding the essence of who they are as black women will be the main focus.
